First European Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Day - 21 November 2006
GIVE YOUNG PEOPLE A CHANCE TO LIVE
You never know, they could be another Chopin…
A study a couple of years ago showed that Chopin probably died of Cystic Fibrosis. His symptoms and family history clearly show this way. If a better treatment would have been available in his time, he certainly would have lived longer and could have given much more of his wonderful music to the world. But every young patient now could be another Chopin, or become someone important to the society if he gets the change to lead a full live. With the current knowledge and treatment children with CF can grow into responsible adults, contributing in their way to society. But unfortunately a lot of children and young people in Europe don’t have access to appropriate care and they never get the chance to build up an adult live…
One of the many promising youngsters with CF is Berenika Rostocka. She is 16 and has CF. Berenika attends the School of music in Kraków, Poland. She has plaid in charity concerts and has done voluntary work for CF patients in Poland since she was 8 years old.
Today she plays Mazurka by… Chopin, of course!
