Issues
and National Association Liaison for the CFW
Newsletter
SKILLS NEEDED
Essential: Knowledge of English and grammar
Knowledge of Cystic Fibrosis
Access to, or ownership of a computer
Knowledge of a Word Processing program (preferably Microsoft Word)
Ability to offer about 10 hours a week to the role
Ability to attend conferences to solicit potential articles
Observing confidentiality and recognising the need for censorship
Sensitivity and Understanding
Preferable: Knowledge of who's who in the CF world
ROLE
1. To solicit articles relating to paediatric
issues by
a) attending conferences and liasing with potential contributors
during or after these events
b) reading international CF specialist publications
c) monitoring the Internet for CF specialist abstracts/articles
of interest.
2. To approach potential contributors to
request article input and offering guidance as to subject, content
and size.
3. Reviewing articles submitted for publication
to see if they are suitable for the CFW Newsletter or can be edited
accordingly (if necessary, shortening for use in 'Mailbag').
4. Editing submitted articles, simplifying
terminology where necessary (for the lay readership) and modifying
for better presentation (including acquiring accompanying photos
of authors, tables, figures, and pulling out quotes from the text
to highlight content. Sourcing own, relevant images if necessary.)
5. To gain good relationships with members
of the professional and lay CF community, with the potential of
gaining future and ongoing assistance/input.
6. To encourage National Associations to
submit updates for the 'National News' column of the IACFA/ICF(M)A
Newsletter.
7. To collate and edit updates and information
for the 'National News' column and produce for publication. (Perhaps
including an introduction to a specific National Association in
each issue.)
8. To read and write reviews of new books
and publications written by members of the CF community, and give
information on how they can be purchased.
9. To participate in the rotational role
of editing issues of the CFW Newsletter with guidance from the other
Editors.
10. Submitting or contributing to an Editor's
Report for EC and Annual General Meetings of CFW, in liaison with
the Editorial team.
11. To continually and actively participate
in the mutual liaison and advisory role of an Editor of the CFW
Newsletter, including updating other team members on potential topics
and article content.
*PLEASE NOTE:
If an individual is keen to apply but lacks one or two of the essential
skills required (not including the 1st skill listed), they will
still be considered if they are prepared to work and train closely
with the current Editors.This person would then be assessed for
suitability after a trial period.
