Golf Tournament Raises 15,000 Euro for CFW

Luud van Ginnenken’s team takes first place

CFW's third annual golf tournament took place on Friday, October 7, 2005. Former CFW President, Herman Weggen, organized the event in memory of his son Rick. Colleagues Frans Heyblom and Gerard Hogeman also helped plan the tournament on behalf of the Heerensocieteit van Etten tot Leur, a gentleman's society they belong to.

Beautiful weather complimented the lush surroundings at the De Wouse Plantage golf course, which is nestled in the woods in the Southwest of The Netherlands near the Belgian border. Dutch organization Charity and Sport helped bring celebrities to participate in the tournament. Celebrity players included Tom Okker, a tennis player once ranked third of the world-ranking list and competitor at Winbeldon. Hein Vergeer, World Champion All-Around title-winner for speed skating in 1985 and 1986, was a participant in last year's event as well. Also attending was Kristie Boogert, a silver medal winner at the Sydney Olympics and Grand Slam title winner at the French Open in 1994.

After lunch, Christine Noke, CFW Program Director, and former President Weggen presented information about the recently opened clinic in Tbilisi , Georgia . A gunshot announced the opening of the tournament. Players remained on the course until 6pm, when drinks and dinner were served at the club restaurant. Weggen gave a heartfelt speech about his involvement with CFW and announced that it would be the last time he would chair the tournament.

The team led by Mr. Luud van Ginnenken, present of the gentleman's society, won first prize. They decided to auction off their prize (a 10 liter bottle of Champagne ), and an additional 350 Euro was raised! Overall, 15,000 Euro was raised to support Phase 2 of the Georgia clinic.
