CFW GRANTS CFW offers grants five types of grants for work related to CF. Visit http://www.cfww.org/grants/index.asp for more information.
SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarships are for individuals working in the field of clinical CF care wishing to improve their knowledge in a recognized CF center worldwide. Normally, the applicant wishing to upgrade their knowledge or skills will come from and be returning to a country or region where CF resources are in need of improvement or development. It will normally be assumed that applicants have some experience in caring for patients with CF and are keenly interested in pursuing this career. Applicants will normally be medically qualified.
VISITING “EXPERT” These will be for highly qualified CF experts in order to facilitate their travel and sojourn in CF centers wishing to improve their clinical or scientific expertise. Normally, the “Host” center will be in a region or country where CF services are in need of further development. Professors and other academic personnel will have been invited and made contacts with the inviting institution beforehand. Duration of the Professorship will be limited to one month. It is expected that Cystic Fibrosis Worldwide at the end of the stay will be supplied with a report on the nature of the stay and medical and research conditions of the institution visited.
RESEARCH PROJECT GRANTS Those wishing to initiate internationally relevant projects of a globally applicable nature should apply for this type of grant. Projects must be done in conjunction with a medical scientific institution in a “developing” country although guidance and expertise may be located in a research unit of “developed” countries. Basic research projects will only be considered when useful in an international context and may concern population screening, epidemiology or related subjects. Research projects should be funded at least in part by national scientific institutions or national CF associations, but this is not a prerequisite for application. Duration of research projects will be limited to one year.
TRAINING COURSES FOR ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS These grants will cover costs for courses both in the applicant's country or abroad. The idea of these courses would be transferal of expertise to allied health professionals of an institution in the process of improving care standards for CF.
SOLIDARITY FUND The Solidarity fund supports the mission of CFW by providing a platform for the exchange of information and supports CF lay Association/Foundation members, volunteers and staff who are engaged in activities to improve quality of life and life expectancy for CF patients in developing countries. This fund has been developed to increase the spread of information, offer training and improved skills to staff, volunteers and board members of CF Associations operating in developing countries. This fund supports the costs involved with attending the European CF Conference (ECFC) and for individuals to travel to a CFW developed member country to work closely for a period of 1 week or more at an established CF Foundation/ Association or attend workshops, seminars, etc hosted by a CFW developed member Association or Foundation. This fund supports applicants who are seeking funds for travel, housing, living expenses and cost for seminars, conference registration, workshops and necessary tools i.e. books, disks etc. needed to participate. Assessment of applications will be done by our medical officers and medical council members who will work in close consultation with external ad hoc expert panels working in the field.
