Kyle’s First Crush

Kyle’s First
Crush is the first story in a series of four about a little boy’s heart warming adoration for
his schoolmate Ashley Elizabeth, who has Cystic Fibrosis. Leah Orr, author of the series, has based
the story on her own daughter, who is now four and a half years old, has CF and lives in Florida.
“I wanted to share the joy and the importance of young love and friendship, while at the same time
briefly address a disease that affects many children as well as adults all over the world,” says
Orr. The story tells the tale of how a little boy called Kyle at
school falls head over heels in love with this amazing girl. The book describes how pretty
she is and how she can do amazing things, such as going down the slide front first and eat
chocolate cake, then decorating the table with the icing. Kyle is enchanted by her and wants to
tell everyone why he loves her. The story is illustrated expertly with drawings in pastel by
Josephine Lepore who is in fact Leah’s own mother; the book is easily read by children of four or
five. Kyle’s First Crush is intended to be more endearing than educative and
will bring much delight to families and children with CF – I wish it had been there for me as a
kid! All proceeds from the sale of this book go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in order to help
fund the treatment and further the understanding of this disease. Over the past 4 years, Orr has
raised over $250,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, between the book, and the Great Strides
team. To purchase a copy please visit www.kylesfirstcrush.com.
