Nasal Saline Irrigation May Relieve Chronic Sinonasal Symptoms
Nasal irrigation with saline has shown to be more effective than saline sprays for the treatment of chronic nasal and sinus symptoms, according the November issue of the Archives of Otolaryngology–Head Neck Surgery. CF Research Leads to 2007 Nobel Prize in Medicine
The 2007 Nobel prize in medicine, was awarded to three scientists —Dr. Oliver Smithies of University of North Carolina, Sir Martin Evans of Cardiff University, and Dr. Mario Capecchi—for their work in creating mouse models of disease. Their collaboration resulted in the "CF mouse" which has been widely used throughout the cystic fibrosis research community. The altered mice are used to study the effects of potential CF treatments.
Aerosolized Hydrogen Peroxide May Counter MRSA Environmental Contamination
A new study indicates that aerosolized hydrogen peroxide demonstrates an excellent ability to neutralize methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) environmental contamination. It holds the promise of cost-effective infection control. Bioquell Ltd, is developing commercial application of the technology. The decontamination process uses 30% hydrogen peroxide and a hot plate to create the vapor. Over the course of about 2 hours, the H2O2 settles on all exposed surfaces, and the highly reactive molecule destroys the pathogen.
