Ella Weggen, editor CFW

Editor Ella Weggen in Amsterdam

It is a great pleasure to be the new editor of the CFW newsletter. In short, I will tell you something about myself.

My name is Ella Weggen and I am a 20 year old student of Political Science in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

My brother, Rick, had Cystic Fibrosis, but unfortunately he died last year. My father has always been active with CFW and previously ICF(M)A, doing so many good things for people who suffer from CF. For this reason, I told him that if there is anything I could do, that I would love to. I think that the spread of information and the awareness of CF in the world are very important. I hope I will be able to help continue this through the CFW Newsletter.

Being able to produce my first edition of the Newsletter as editor was not an easy task for me, as I have very limited experience. I have deep respect for my predecessor Samantha Hillyard, who did an amazing job as the editor of the Newsletter, which is why I would like to dedicate my first Newsletter as editor to her.

During the conference in Birmingham, I met a lot of people and this was amazing. A lot of people offered me their help. I would like to thank everyone. I would like to pay special thanks to the Assistant Editors; Georgia Brown, Dace Shugg, Malina Boone, Jill Weinstein and my father, Herman Weggen.

Over the years, ICF(M)A worked to provide support for the CF community through its grants program and Scientific Medical Advisory Committee and IACFA through its Newsletter and Conferences. Today CFW continues many of these activities such as the grants program, newsletter and conferences but now also works to provide direct support through its project work such as the CF Clinic project in Tblisi, Georgia. New ideas will continue to be born and new projects developed. In this newsletter you can read about some of them.

I am also working on something new for the CFW Newsletter; a cartoon or comic strip. If you want to know more about all this, take a look at our website: www.cfww.org

I welcome any suggestions or recommendations our readers have to help improve the Newsletter.

Wishing you well,
Ella Weggen
