Dear readers of the CFW Newsletter,
Unfortunately this will be my last newsletter Editor.
There are several reasons for this. It has been quite difficult for
me to constantly deal with so many CF issues because of the death of
my brother. Sometimes I don’t want to remember my brother as a
person with CF, but just as a person I loved. Before I started the job
of Editor, I did not realise that this would be as difficult as it has
been at times.
In addition, my life is very busy at the moment and I
am going to South Africa for six months in connection with my university
studies of political science. I would not have a lot of time to work
on the Newsletter, and I don’t want the quality to suffer because
of this. However, I am pleased to report that we have found a very well
qualified successor: Jill Weinstein from the USA.
I am very sorry if I have disappointed anybody, but I
hope that you understand my reasons. I think that CFW is a wonderful
organisation and does amazing things around the world for people with
CF. I wish CFW all the best for the future. I will always support the
great projects CFW has initiated.
An interesting article in this edition reports on recent
developments in the new CFW project in India, where there is a real
need for improvement in CF care and diagnosis. Gene and Stem Cell Therapies
by Professor Bob Williamson is an interesting scientific article. There
is an amazing ‘Personal Experience’ article by Dick Lijnsveld,
which made my jaw drop! After close-ups on Bulgaria and Turkey in previous
editions, there is a close up on Belgium this time, a well developed
country, the origin of innovative physiotherapy treatments for CF and
high level CF care available in clinics.
I hope you enjoy Edition 6.
I wish the best for you all in the future.
My warmest regards,
Ella Weggen,
