Lebanese Cystic Fibrosis Patient receives life saving medication via CFW

According to the Laws of Massachusetts, where CFW is registered, we are not permitted to facilitate donation from the United States. CFW is now seeking an alternative way of donating medication and will post any new details we uncover.

LEBANON - A cystic fibrosis patient is facing the hardship of post-war Lebanon while trying to survive without his much needed medications. Twenty year old Rami suffered weight loss taking the expired Creon® enzymes and limiting his dose dramatically during the recent conflict. His lung functions suffered because he has had no access to TOBI©, an inhalation antibiotic, since April. Even though the war is over, the medications he needs are still unavailable and too expensive.

Because the war torn region is without the ability to supply CF medications, Cystic Fibrosis Worldwide, a US based NGO, is working to remedy the situation. While CFW does not usually supply medications or help patients on an individual basis, when Rami requested help, CFW began contacting organizations seeking assistance on his behalf.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) provided Rami with a month supply of Creon® and TOBI®, necessary medication for CF patients. The CFF also arranged shipping and monitored the shipment to ensure it reached Rami safely.

The Turkish CF Association has donated 10 boxes of Creon® enzymes and is working with Red Crescent to send these medications to Rami. This shipment will provide Rami with enough enzymes for 2 months.

CFW is looking for a permanent donor and/or to secure Creon® and TOBI© or inhaled tobramycin (Nebcin) at a discounted price. In addition, CFW hopes to secure funds to cover the costs of shipping medication and equipment.
